Benefits, debt and money advice

Take advantage of our free benefits and money advice service that we offer through the Citizens Advice Bureau in partnership with the Royal British Legion. 

Trained advisers are on call to offer specialist advice to serving and former RAF personnel, their partners and dependents.

In England, Wales and Northern Ireland

There are over 37 Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB) offices offering the service across England, Wales and Northern Ireland. 

The participating offices offer specialist debt advice to serving and ex-Service personnel, their partners and dependents.  Once you meet with them, they will suggest various solutions.

In Scotland

We fund an advice service, the Armed Services Advice Project (ASAP), that is delivered by the Scottish Citizens Advice Bureau Service. 

This service provides advice on money and debt as well as benefits, welfare, housing, work, consumer issues and relationships.

Ways we can help

Sometimes we can provide additional help with priority debts, such as mortgages, rent or utility bills. But first you must seek guidance from the Citizens Advice Bureau. 

For example, recently a CAB caseworker advised a client whose husband had served in the RAF.  The client’s husband had mental health issues and is unable to work.  As a result, the couple were having difficulties managing their priority and non-priority debts.

The case worker provided money advice, information about maximising income and assistance with applications for benefits.  We gave a grant to the client which included payments towards priority creditors and ongoing living expenses.
