Sir Robert Wright

CONTROLLER

AIR MARSHAL SIR ROBERT WRIGHT KBE AFC FRAeS FCMI
Air Marshal Sir Robert Wright was commissioned into the RAF in 1966. After a distinguished career as a jet fighter pilot, he served in a series of policy appointments culminating with over 3 years as UK Military Representative to NATO and the EU. He joined the RAF Benevolent Fund as Controller in January 2007.

Mike Barter

DIRECTOR WELFARE

AIR COMMODORE MIKE BARTER CBE
Air Commodore Mike Barter joined the RAF in 1975, and served as a pilot on a variety of squadrons within the Support Helicopter Force. He took Command No 7 Squadron in 1993, during which time he commanded a composite Chinook/Puma squadron deployed on operations in the Former Yugoslavia. In 1999 he was the Station Commander at RAF Odiham and in 2002 he was appointed Commandant RAF College Cranwell and Director Recruitment (RAF). Mike joined the Fund as Director Welfare in June 2006.

Dean Benton

DIRECTOR MARKETING & COMMUNICATIONS

DEAN BENTON
Dean Benton joined the Civil Service in 1981 and worked for a number of government agencies before leaving to join the Birmingham Education Business Partnership in 1995 as Head of Marketing. In 1997 he accepted the post of Assistant Director of Marketing and Communications with the largest UK children’s charity, NCH. Dean joined the RAFBF in January 2005 as Director of Marketing and Communications, and is a member both of the Chartered Institute of Marketing and Institute of Directors from where he obtained his professional qualifications.

Ernie Bohm

DIRECTOR POLICY & PLANS

WING COMMANDER ERNIE BOHM
Wing Commander Ernie Bohm joined the RAF as an apprentice and served for 34 years. A Chartered Secretary by profession, he filled a wide range of administrative and finance related appointments on RAF stations and in the Ministry of Defence. Taking early retirement from the RAF in 1998, he joined the Fund as Finance Director. In 2007 he was appointed to the new role of Director of Policy and Plans.

Nick Waring

DIRECTOR FINANCE & ADMINISTRATION

NICK WARING
Nick Waring started his career at KPMG Accountants where he obtained his professional qualifications as a Chartered Accountant. After a brief period in the NHS, Nick moved to Kenya in 1998 and worked in a rural 200-bed tertiary care hospital as Director of Finance. He returned to the UK in 2002 to work at Christian Aid and, after spending 3 ½ years as Head of Finance there, joined the Fund in June 2007.
