Ryan Moorhouse

Ryan Moorhouse and familyRyan Moorhouse – from Leeds, Yorkshire – served in the RAF between 2003 and 2009, leaving with the rank of SAC. During his time in the Air Force, Ryan completed a tour in Iraq before being deployed to Afghanistan as a gunner with 51 Squadron RAF Regiment.

Ryan was seriously injured on the 30th August 2007 when an IED exploded under his vehicle. Two of his colleagues were killed in the attack, one of whom was a very close friend.

Ryan suffered a frontal facial fracture, collapsed eye socket, collapsed lung and neck injury, as well as cognitive impairment.

Ryan in AfghanistanMarried with a young son, Ryan found himself in financial difficulties after he was medically discharged in Dec 2009. He didn’t know much about the RAF Benevolent Fund but his senior officer recommended the help he could get from us.

We were able to help clear the family’s debts and assist with the cost of their mortgage, a special bed and a car.

Ryan said: “I’ll be eternally grateful to the RAF Benevolent Fund. They took away my two big financial headaches and helped me and my family get back on our feet. They really deserve our support because they do a lot of good work and don’t shout about it.”
