Carl HardingComing home from RAF College Cranwell where he taught, Carl Harding was in a head-on collision with a van overtaking on the crest of a hill.

"I had a smashed back, broken ribs, punctured lungs, broken hands, wrists and shoulder and other complications, and was in hospital for a year. I am now paralysed from the chest down, and in a wheelchair for the rest of my life.

"The Fund helped with travel costs for my wife Kate. She was commuting to see me in hospital nearly every day while also hunting for a house."

When Kate found a bungalow, the RAF Benevolent Fund bought it and adapted it for wheelchair use. The Hardings moved in, paying rent they could afford.

Carl then won compensation from the other driver. "I was able to repay the Fund so that they can help other members of the RAF family, the way they helped me."
