Celebrating someone the RAF way

David MearsDavid Mears had often said how he wished he'd carried on in the RAF after his Service in 1952-1957, as he had enjoyed it so much and found it to be such a formative experience.

When he died in 2008, his sister-in-law, Carol Taylor, wanted to celebrate this part of David's life so she organised a collection at his funeral for the RAF Benevolent Fund.

"It seemed a good idea, so I got in touch with Jon Heard - the Legacy Officer at the Fund," explains Carol. "He was fantastic: easy to talk to and very helpful.

"David had left 25% of his estate to the RAF Benevolent Fund in his Will - my late sister also left something - so Jon kindly arranged for a trumpeter to come to David's funeral and play the Last Post. David would have been very pleased with that!"
