We may be able to help you with the essential costs of living when you're in financial difficulty. We usually help those living on a state pension or receiving Disability Living Allowance. But there are other situations in which we help with living costs as well. The help we give depends on our own detailed assessment of your financial situation.
We can consider offering help with many kinds of costs and expenses. When you ask us for help we try to find the best solution for your personal situation. Some of the most common forms of help we give are listed below.
Annual maintenance grants
These grants (from £10 per week) are paid in quarterly installments to those living on the state pension, to help meet the cost of living from day-to-day.
Sickness maintenance grants
If you are in receipt of Disability Living Allowance, with the propsect of remaining in the same situation in the long term, we may be able to make a grant, paid quarterly, to supplement your income.
Children's needs
- If your child has special needs, this can be the cause of increased financial pressure. We can help, for example, with schooling fees, equipment and care costs.
- If your child is in hospital we can help with the cost caused by taking time off work to make hospital visits.
- If your child has no special needs and is in good health, we still may be able to help, for example, with the cost of school uniforms, if you are in a difficult financial situation.
Essential living costs
You may get by from day-to-day, but when an expensive and essential item suddenly breaks and needs replacing, you may find yourself in a situation where you can no longer cope. We may be able to help pay for:
- Repair or replacement of a fridge, washing machine, cooker or similar
- Replacement of furniture
- Costs relating to the necessity of moving house
Funeral costs
We can help towards paying basic funeral expenses to ensure every member of the RAF family receives a respectful burial.
