Education Grants
Where a parent's death or severe disablement has occurred whilst serving, the Fund may assist with the costs of boarding education from age eight. Known as Foundationers, these children have priority at the Duke of Kent School in Surrey which was, until 1997, owned by the Fund.
It is now administered by a separate charity with its own trustee body and which owns the School. This Charity was named 'The Alexander Duckham Memorial Schools Trust' (ADMST) in memory of the donor of Vanburgh Castle, the Fund's original school at Blackheath. The Duke of Kent School is a successful, well-run and happy establishment, boasting a good academic record and offering a substantial range of sports and cultural activities. The Duke of Kent School although an independent charity, continues to reserve absolute priority for admission to Benevolent Fund Foundationers - that is, the children of parents who die or suffer severe disablement whilst serving in the Royal Air Force.
