Assistance is normally given in the form of a grant. If someone is a home owner the Committee may feel it more appropriate to offer an interest-free or low interest loan.

Some of the ways in which the Fund has recently helped are as follows:

  • Resettlement expenses - payment of rent bond and first month's rent
  • Provision of furniture and white goods
  • Childcare where there is illness within the family
  • Specialist equipment for disabled children and adults e.g. laptop computer, speech synthesiser, light-writer
  • Clothing/specialist footwear
  • Annual maintenance grants which are paid in quarterly instalments to the elderly on low incomes, and are designed to help with the cost of day to day living expenses. These grants are not only paid in the UK, but anywhere in the world where members of the RAF family are in financial distress
  • Provision of mobility aids - electric wheelchairs and scooters are issued on loan to members of the RAF family
  • General needs
