Housing

In certain circumstances, the RAF Benevolent Fund is able to help with housing. Assistance will be considered for those who have been medically discharged with a severe disability such that they are unable to obtain normal civilian employment. It is also considered for those widows with dependent children who are unable to obtain accommodation through other means. In addition, help is extended to those serving personnel where the spouse is severely disabled.

Housing Trust

House Purchase

The Fund is able to help in one of two ways. If a potential beneficiary is able to find 51% of the purchase price of the property, the Fund will consider lending the balance, secured as a mortgage against that property. If capital is not available, suitable accommodation may be purchased by the Fund's Housing Trust and, taking into account ability to pay, rented at an appropriate level to the beneficiary. The Housing Trust currently owns approximately 260 properties.

Repairs

The Fund also helps house owners who are in financial distress and who require help with the cost of house repairs. In these cases, assistance is usually provided by means of a low-interest loan, secured against the property.

Disabled Facilities

For many who become infirm or who are disabled, remaining in their own homes becomes a challenge. When disabled facilities grants are not available, or are insufficient to meet the full cost, the Fund can assist with the provision of stair lifts, bathroom alterations and other specific adaptations.
