Nomination Rights and Assistance with Fees
The Fund relies heavily on a number of private residential and nursing homes where limited nomination rights can facilitate access for those in need. In addition, the Fund can provide limited assistance to help bridge part of the gap between what a local authority is prepared to contribute and the actual cost of care for beneficiaries in private Homes.
For those choosing to remain independent in their own homes, the Fund can augment Local Authority provision in arranging to share the cost of additional support.
Sheltered Housing
The Fund has details of many organisations that are able to assist in the provision of sheltered housing where accomodation can be adapted to meet evolving care needs. These facilities provide a warden or manager whose watchful, but not intrusive, presence allows residents to retain their independence under a protective 'umbrella'.
Enquiries/Applications
Enquiries and applications for long or short-term residence, domiciliary care, sheltered housing or advice should be made to: The Care Services Department at the Fund's London Headquarters; tel. 0207 307 3359.
Advocacy Service
As it has become more difficult to gain access to public resources for care services and the rules governing entitlements have grown more complex, the need for individuals to be aware of their rights has grown in importance. The 'Care Services Team' at the Fund has thus adapted to meet a significant rise in the number of calls for advice on entitlements under the Care in the Community and Social Services Acts. Advice is also increasingly called for in the area of domiciliary care and it remains very important that, before applicants consider coming to the Fund for assistance, they should know where they should turn to for help and what limits on support from public sources can be anticipated.
