ERSKINE, the charity that provides care for Scotland’s ex-military personnel, recently received a £100,000 inject to its Anniesland project appeal from the Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund. In addition the RAF Benevolent Fund has also contributed £40,000 in support of the cost of caring for residents who are former members of the RAF.
‘Erskine’ formerly known as the Princess Louise Scottish Hospital and until 2004 as the Erskine Hospital, has been in existence since 1916. Its mission is to provide high quality long and short-term care with nursing including dementia, for Scotland’s ex-Servicemen and women, for as long as the need exists.
There are currently 54 former members of the RAF who are residents within the Erskine collection of homes and 67 on the waiting list. The RAF Benevolent Fund’s support for Erskine is an extension of its care for the RAF Family who are in need. As well as making grants to entitled individuals, the Fund also makes special donations to charities which further its aims.
On receiving the cheque Colonel Martin Gibson, Erskine’s Chief Executive, said, “We are delighted to receive this substantial sum from the RAF Benevolent Fund and welcome their support just as we are about to start building work on our multi-purpose care home here in Anniesland. The new home is scheduled to open in the middle of next year, taking Erskine Care into the heart of Glasgow for the very first time.”
