Air Vice Marshal Steven Hillier, AOC, 2 Gp, met with representatives of the RAF Benevolent Fund, the RAF’s leading welfare charity, to make a donation last week. The Air Vice Marshal raised £365 for the charity by performing a parachute jump at Weston-on-the-Green, Oxfordshire. The presentation was made at HQ Air Command on 29 September.
AVM Hillier is a supporter of the RAF Benevolent Fund due to the work the charity does providing financial and practical support to all members of the RAF family.
He said:
“During my visits to 2 Gp units, I have been enormously impressed by the sheer size and range of support offered by the RAF Benevolent Fund. Providing everything from purpose built childcare facilities to welfare support, to both serving and retired Service men and women, the RAF Benevolent Fund remains very much at the heart of the Royal Air Force. We were delighted to be able offer our own support to the charity through this local event.”
Paul Hewson, RAF Benevolent Fund Regional Director for London and the South East said:
“I am very grateful to AVM Hillier for donating the proceeds from his charity free fall parachute jump to the RAF Benevolent Fund. His efforts and those of his fellow parachutists are typical of the fundraising events which are undertaken across the rank spectrum, at all RAF stations, in support of their charity. This support has been especially strong in 2009, our 90th anniversary year, where serving personnel have played a central role in all our celebrations.”
