Online flight and ATC simulation to raise money for the RAF Benevolent Fund

24 May 2010
Virtual Air Traffic Simulation (VATSIM) – an online flight and Air Traffic Control simulation network – is hoping to raise money for the RAF Benevolent Fund with a first-of-its-kind online event on Sunday 4th July from 4-7pm. ‘RAF Brize Norton un-Real ops’ has been organised by the Military side of VATSIM-UKand will enable users to pilot or control virtual aircraft in and out of RAF Brize Norton.
VATSIM run a network of servers around the globe that are all linked together. Anyone with an interest in flight simulation and/or Air Traffic Control can become a member of VATSIM free of charge and, by connecting to these servers, fly simulated flights or provide Air Traffic Control to those pilots who are also connected.
On Sunday 4th July VATSIM-UK hope to raise money for the RAF Benevolent Fund by introducing a “landing fee” in aid of the RAF’s leading welfare charity. Pilots and Air Traffic Controllers who take part in the online event will be asked to make a donation to aid the RAF Benevolent Fund’s work supporting past and present RAF personnel, their partners and dependants. VATSIM members can also bid for items donated by several different companies in an online charity auction.
