Amendment to the trusts of the RAF Benevolent Fund
The Charity Commission proposes to make a Scheme to amend the trusts of the RAF Benevolent Fund as set out below. Comments or representations can be made within one month from today.
THE CHARITY COMMISSION FOR ENGLAND AND WALES Under the power given in the Charities Act 1993 Orders that from today, the 6th June 2008 this SCHEME will alter the governing document of the charity known as THE ROYAL AIR FORCE BENEVOLENT FUND (1081009) Commission References: Sealing: Case No: 612848 1. Definitions In this scheme: “the charity” means the charity identified at the beginning of this scheme. “the governing document” means the Royal Charter granted on 24 November 1999, as amended by Order in Council dated 10 March 2004. 2. Administration The charity is to be administered in accordance with the governing document as altered by this scheme. 3. Objects (1) Article II (a) and Article II (b) of the governing document shall be deleted and replaced with the following: Article II OBJECTS The objects for which the Charity is established and incorporated are: (a) the maintenance, upkeep and repair of the War Memorial known as the RAF Memorial situated at the Victoria Embankment, London; (b) the relief and assistance by all available means of all or any of the following classes of beneficiaries who are in need of such relief or assistance by reason of poverty, disability, sickness, infirmity or otherwise, namely: (i) all persons of all ranks who are or have or shall have been at any time or shall be at any time members of the Royal Air Force, the Royal Auxiliary Air Force, the Royal Air Force Reserves including the Volunteer Reserve (Training) Organisation, the Women’s Royal Air Force, the Women’s Auxiliary Air Force, the Air Cadet Organisation, the University Air Squadron Organisation or the Air Force or Auxiliary Air Force of any present or former colony dominion or dependent territory of Great Britain or members of any former organisation the place of which has substantially been taken by the said organisations or any of them, or members of any future organisations which hereafter shall substantially take the place of the said organisations or any of them; and (ii) all persons who shall at any time have been or be widows, widowers, children or other dependants of any of the persons above referred to; and (c) the promotion of the efficiency of the Royal Air Force principally by, but not limited to, providing support and assistance by any means to any persons who are serving in the Royal Air Force and their dependants with a view to enhancing the morale and well being of serving members of the Royal Air Force. (2) Article II (a)(a) and (b)(b) will remain as in the governing document. 4. Questions relating to the Scheme The Commission may decide any question put to it concerning: (1) the interpretation of this scheme; or (2) the propriety or validity of anything done or intended to be done under it.
