Veronica Young

After being employed by the Army and RAF, Veronica joins the Fund as a Social Engagement Worker (SEW) at RAF Lossiemouth.

Veronica, known as Vron, was employed by the RAF families Association 'Airwaves' as Overseas Manager, Publicity Manager, and Airwaves representative for Akrotiri and Episkopi, Cyprus.

In 2003 she moved to RAF Leuchars and became Airwaves representative and continued as Overseas and Publicity Manager until April 2007.


Following this she took up appointment as the HIVE Information Officer and following the transfer of the station to the Army she had responsibility for Army HIVEs in Scotland.

In addition to that, between April and August 2019 Vron had a part-time role with Fife Council as assistant registrar marrying couples.

She has held numerous voluntary roles including work with SSAFA. She has received a number of awards including the British Empire Medal in 2015.

Her many hobbies include photography and calligraphy, both of which have been used to good effect in her previous roles.

She started, and was musical director of Leuchars Military Wives and has been an active member of RAF Leuchars Station Conservation Group, secretary of RAF Leuchars Live Music Club, sang and played guitar and alto saxophone in rock band 'Igneous Rock'.

She managed to find the time to Graduate from the Open University with a BSc(Hons) in Environmental Studies in 2010 and takes part in annual winter bird surveys with the RAF ornithological society for the British Trust for Ornithology.
