Airplay at RAF Lossiemouth

Airplay at Lossiemouth is a thriving and ever growing youth project with over 100 members based at The Circle, Myreside Circle, Elgin which is in the heart of our largest families' accommodation area.

The team is lead by the Community Development Officer, Sarah Riley-Evans and Karen Forbes, station youth worker and features both paid staff, volunteers and local community members.

Weekly activities

Overly Dramatic!
An informal club designed to increase self-confidence and improve communication skills through drama and expressive arts.  We write our own scripts, make our own props and whilst we practice hard we also have lots of fun playing games.

Junior Youth Club (Aged 8-11 years)
The junior youth club has a mix of crafts, games, sports, discussions and trips out.  Our older members run their own tuck shop with penny sweets and we have several teenagers who help us run this session as their service element of their Duke of Edinburgh Award.

NKA or No Kids Allowed
This is our senior club for aged over 11. We are a much more relaxed and chilled out group where the main argument is over whose turn it is to make the brews!  We still have lots of fun though and try to do regular mini projects including a recent one on health and fitness and we encourage the members to plan their own programme.

Green Fingers
This is one of our afterschool clubs which focuses on being outdoors and enjoying nature. We have our own allotment and this year grew strawberries, radishes, potatoes, lettuce, broad beans and rhubarb as well as learning lots about slugs which ate everything we grew!

We are currently working on a wildlife project and building bird and insect boxes to be put on the unit.

Tumbling Tornados
This takes place once a week in the station gym where we offer qualified gymnastic instruction. This is a very new club and is the only session parents need to pre-book as we have very tight instructor to young person rules. If anyone has been inspired by the men’s gymnastic medal win at the London Olympics this is the club for you!
