At RAF Valley, thanks to the support of the RAF Benevolent Fund, the youngsters at Airplay were able to enjoy four weeks of fun-packed activities.
The youngsters at RAF Valley enjoyed an array of exciting activities throughout the summer with events including dance workshops, circus skills, and multi sports sessions at the Station gymnasium. The summer programme at RAF Valley had been organised in consultation with the Airplay members themselves, with other entertaining ventures including a youth residential week at Coalbrookdale, bingo, and a samba drumming workshop.
"These activities and the term-time activity programmes are really important to the families who are stationed here at RAF Valley," explained Dean Clarke, Community Development Officer at RAF Valley. "They provide much-needed support in this location in Anglesey and allow the kids a chance to have fun together, in what can be quite a lonely location at times."
Graffiti artist Andy Birch was on hand to assist with one of the most popular activities, helping 21 youngsters create some eye-catching and colourful designs to brighten up the youth centre – including individual name plaques, and a tribute to 'Ben Elephant', the Fund's mascot.
Dean goes on to explain: "We've had some great feedback from the young people from the graffiti art session, and we'll be running another one for Halloween in October. The Ben Elephant artwork looks incredible, and really adds a splash of colour to the club."
