A trip to the newly launched Princess Marina House Lunch Club to celebrate their 66th wedding anniversary turned into a double celebration for Alex and Edna Wallace when they also became the Club's 500th lunch guest.
RAF veteran Alex, 90, and Edna, 86, who married on 16 September 1950, were presented with a voucher for a free lunch on their next visit after becoming the 500th guest to dine at the Club since its launch in May.
Alex, who served in the Royal Air Force for 10 years as an engine fitter, saw an advert promoting the Lunch Clubs in the local newspaper and thought it would be the ideal way to celebrate 66 happy years together.
He said: "We had a lovely day and thoroughly enjoyed our time at Princess Marina House. Our fish and chip lunch was delicious and there was a great atmosphere. The staff were very helpful, they really looked after us.
"We'd heard about Princess Marina House but never visited. When I saw an advert for the Lunch Club I thought it would be nice for Edna and I to have a meal there and celebrate our wedding anniversary. We usually go for a meal locally but Princess Marina is on the coast and a lovely place to visit.
"We were really surprised to be presented with a meal voucher for being the 500th guest and have already been back since. We’re planning on going again soon as it was such excellent value for money and you get to meet so many nice people. I would definitely recommend it!"
The Princess Marina House Lunch Club is available daily from 12.30pm and open to RAF veterans, their partners and friends. The cost of the lunch is £8 and includes afternoon activities and tea and cake.
