English tea growers launch Churchill's Finest at Chelsea Flower Show honouring 'The Few'

For some, you cannot get more British than a cup of tea and now England's only home-grown tea producer has raised the bar a British grown tea, celebrating a British icon!

Tregothnan has produced 'Churchill's Finest' to mark the 75th anniversary of the Battle of Britain where 'The Few' took to the skies to defend the UK from Luftwaffe attacks during the Second World War.

Following a hard-fought battle, which saw the loss of more than 1,000 aircraft, Prime Minister Winston Churchill made one of his most famous speeches including the unforgettable phrase 'Never in the field of human conflict was so much owed by so many to so few'.

RAF Benevolent Fund regional director Paul Hewson said: "Churchill was famed for his love of cigars and the finer things in life so I'm sure he would have been a fan of Tregothnan tea! The RAF Benevolent Fund provides welfare support for serving and retired RAF personnel and their families.

"This work would not be possible without the generosity of companies like Tregothnan – we are truly grateful."

Churchill's Finest tea is a blend of leaves grown at Tregothnan’s plantation in Cornwall and the finest Assam. Ten pence from every packet sold will be donated to the RAF Benevolent Fund, the RAF's leading welfare charity.

Jonathon Jones, of Tregothnan, said: "We are delighted to pay tribute to those brave men who fought for our freedom 75 years ago, and support the incredible work of the RAF Benevolent Fund at the same time. It is rather fitting that the British tradition of drinking tea should honour one of the greatest British leaders, Winston Churchill.

"Tregothnan is delighted to have created the most British tea in history and to fulfil Churchill's request that tea be grown in the UK.

"I am personally indebted to the Winston Churchill Memorial Trust for supporting my early plant hunting expeditions to South America; studies that helped lead to the pioneering of tea growing in the UK."

Tregothnan has been the home of the Boscawen family since 1335. During that time the estate has become home to a collection of rare plants. In a nod to this history, the unique blend of Churchill's Finest tea was launched at the Chelsea Flower Show.
