Since 2012 Windswept Brewing Co has been capturing and preserving the flavours of great quality ingredients to produce an award-winning range of Scottish craft beers. In their newest brew Windswept Brewing Co. have served up a special edition RAF Benevolent Fund IPA, and the two organisations this month celebrate their one-year anniversary in partnership. So far, Windswept Brewing Co. have generously donated £1,500 directly to the RAF Benevolent Fund.
Al Read and Nigel Tiddy, the founders of Windswept, are two former RAF Tornado pilots. Their love of the outdoors was always balanced by the beer they enjoyed at the end of each day.
With a combined service of 34 years in the RAF, both Nigel and Al wanted to commemorate the achievements, services, and collaborations of the last 100 years of the RAF Benevolent, who this year celebrate their centenary. From this they created the 'Hurricane', a 4.5% session IPA, with 5 pence from every pint of Hurricane sold going to the RAF Benevolent Fund.
Working with Baz Dale, former Director for Scotland and Northern Ireland at the RAF Benevolent Fund, the group came up with the idea and looked at a range of ingredients that would not only make great tasting beer but nod to the RAF's prestigious history.
Nigel said: "After a combined service of 34 years in the RAF, Al and I both feel it is a great privilege to be able to give a little back to the RAF Benevolent Fund, especially in its centenary year! It has been great fun to work with Baz to create a beer that combines British Malts and New World Hops and acknowledges the service given not only by the thousands of British men and women who have served in the RAF, but also the role played by people from around the world in shaping the RAF and creating its history."
Baz said: "We are delighted that in this seminal year Nigel and Windswept Brewing have chosen to raise funds for the RAF Family. It is support like that has enabled the Fund to stand side by side with the RAF for almost 100 years, offering financial, emotional and practical assistance to serving personnel, veterans and families, when they need it most."
