Jo Hampson and her family were one of several RAF families who attended our special screening of Disney’s Planes. In this guest blog, Jo tells us what she and her family enjoyed about the screening.
"You'll never guess what?" my husband yelled as he came rushing through the door after a long shift at work. My first thought as always was that it would be something to do with his work. Exciting for him but maybe not so for me.
"I've got us four tickets to go and see an advance screening of Disney's Planes!" he said. I was equally as excited and we couldn't wait to tell our children.
We live at RAF Odiham with our two children, Lilly who is seven and Josh who is four.
My husband and I have been married for nine years and during that time my husband has done over 1,200 days away. As such he has missed many important and exciting events in the children's lives. We were thrilled that this was something we could do as a family.
We waited until the tickets arrived in the post and then we showed the children. They were beside themselves. Josh has been a huge fan of Lightning McQueen and the Cars films since they were released.
His Cars cars have always been his comfort toys – particularly when his daddy is away and I really thought he would burst with excitement.
The day of the screening
We all got up early on the morning of the screening and my children wanted to wear their best clothes as Daddy looked so smart in his No1 uniform.
When we arrived at the Curzon Mayfair we were greeted by some lovely (and exceptionally polite) Air Cadets. We had our photograph taken and felt like very special guests as we took our seats.
The Air Cadets played wonderful music which Josh really enjoyed. Children's entertainers kept the children giggling by making jokes and balloon planes.
The film started and it was our first time at a 3D screening. Wow! The planes seemed to come right out of the screen.
The film was amazing and had all the usual Disney magic and thrills. It is still a talking point between my children. Favourite characters have already been chosen, Lilly thought Rochelle was wonderful and Josh was very taken with Dusty. I have been asked several times to tell Santa that Josh would like the film for Christmas on DVD.
We were all so pleased to have been invited to the screening by the RAF Benevolent Fund. A truly magical experience that we shall not forget in a hurry.
