Air Commodore Chris Green, Station Commander RAF Cosford, was presented with the RAF Benevolent Fund (RAFBF) Wilkinson Sword on 18 February, during a special event at the Imperial War Museum.
The sword, which is awarded to those who show outstanding support for the RAFBF, was given in recognition of his station’s superb fundraising work during 2010, which saw £17,000 raised at a Gala Dinner at the RAF Museum Cosford and £65,000 donated to the RAFBF by the RAF Cosford airshow.
Air Commodore Green was presented with the sword by the Viscount Trenchard of Wolfeton, Chairman of the RAFBF, and Dean Benton, RAFBF Director of Marketing and Communications.
Dean Benton said: "It's a real pleasure to present this award tonight. The Wilkinson Sword is reserved for those who make a truly outstanding contribution to supporting the RAFBF’s work as the RAF's leading welfare charity and RAF Cosford certainly went above and beyond the call of duty last year with their passion and enthusiasm for our cause.
"The RAF Benevolent Fund spends £21 million a year helping serving and former members of the RAF and their families, regardless of rank - but without the support of stations like RAF Cosford we simply would not be able to offer the spectrum of care which we provide. Our thanks again for their excellent fundraising."
