Members of the RAF Motorsports Association (RAFMSA) joined forces with the RAF Benevolent Fund (RAFBF) at Northwood Road Safety Day on 11 May to launch a new fundraising and awareness partnership.
During 2011 RAF Rally cars will sport the RAFBF’s Heart Roundel logo, while RAFMSA teams will raise money for the charity at motorsport events throughout the year.
Rosie Gibbons, regional fundraiser for the RAF Benevolent Fund (RAFBF), said:
“We’re honoured to have been selected as RAF Motorsport’s charity of the year in 2011 – it’s another great example of how we’re working with RAF sport to raise awareness of our work. RAFMSA members are active in everything from 4 x 4 events and rallying, to motocross and karting, so their members will give us invaluable help in spreading the word about the practical and financial support we offer the RAF family.”
The RAF Rallying Subaru Impreza made its first appearance in RAF Benevolent Fund colours at Northwood, under the RAFBF marquee which the team will use for static displays.
Craig Teasdale, rally competition secretary, said:
“The RAF Motorsports Association is proud to support the RAF Benevolent Fund during 2011. Hopefully by marking up our cars with their famous heart roundel logo we can let the rally going public learn about the great work the charity does with serving and former RAF personnel – and raise some much needed funds in the process. The RAF Benevolent Fund spent £21 million supporting the RAF family last year so they need all the support they can get!”
