This year the stakes were high, as RAF Odiham took on the Fleet Half Marathon.
On what was the 35th Anniversary of the Half Marathon, the Station Commander and 17 other keen individuals took to the streets of Fleet, all in aid of the RAF Benevolent Fund.
Under the guise of determining once and for all who is the fastest, the team had been training hard for the feat. Although there was no specific fundraising target, the Station Executives of RAF Odiham who ran had organised a ‘Bet on the Exec’ competition to try to raise as much as possible.
The Fund is close to the heart of many of those running in the event, so participants were keen to drum up support and raise as much awareness and money as they could.
With all 18 runners completing the challenge and a fantastic amount raised in donations, spirits were high.
“It was a fantastic event for us all,” enthused Station Commander, Group Captain Phil Robinson.
“We are all grateful for the Fund; what it stands for and what it does for the RAF; and so to be able to give back through a challenge such as this seems a fitting way to raise even more awareness and funds for such an inclusive cause”.
