The new Skate Park at RAF Scampton in Lincolnshire was officially opened this week by Station Commander, Wing Commander Richard Turner, much to the delight of the local school children.
The idea for a Skate Park came from Ben Huddlestone aged 10, a pupil at Pollyplatt Primary School who wrote to the Station Commander early in 2012 requesting a place for young people to practice their skateboarding skills.
"I wanted a Skate Park at Scampton so that my parents didn't have to drive me to Welton to play. I asked all my friends at school and at Youth Club if they thought a Skate Park would be a good idea and they were all excited about it so I wrote to the Station Commander asking him for his help in getting us some money," says Ben.
Funding for the Skate Park and a new Play Park was secured via the Armed Forces Community Covenant and the Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund.
