Pedalling her way to the finish line, our Regional Fundraiser for Scotland Zee Fletcher took on the Edinburgh Night Ride for the Fund.
On Saturday 18 June, as the sun was lowering in the sky, a team formed of Zee Fletcher, Regional Fundraiser Scotland, Vincent O’Brien a medical reservist from 612 Sqn Leuchar’s and his wife Linz, lined up ready to participate in the Edinburgh Night Ride.
The bike ride consisted of a challenging 50 mile cycle across Edinburgh. Beginning with a 400m climb up Arthur’s Seat, the cycle route criss-crossed through the city and across the Forth Road Bridge, taking in imposing inclines as well as some stunning views.
After a final decent over the cobbles of the Royal Mile, the team crossed the finish line at 03.30, at Meadowbank Stadium, after 7 hours cycling.
Linz explained, “Vince came home and had volunteered me for this ride having been inspired after a presentation at Leuchar's during a training weekend and wanted to raise money for the RAF Benevolent Fund.
“I can hardly believe I have achieved this, as I really hit the wall at 26 miles and was ready to get a taxi home at 32 miles, but the team sprit and self-determination got me to the end and I’m over the moon and so proud of myself!”
The combined team total has now exceeded £1000 for the Fund, well over the target the riders had set for themselves.
“I’m still on such a happy high - it was fantastic and a great challenge!’” Zee exclaimed. “I’m really chuffed to bits that I completed the ride, and so pleased I was able to do it with such incredible people and support.”
