As the Royal Air Force's leading welfare charity, the RAF Benevolent Fund is very pleased that the Government previously agreed to use some of the LIBOR funds for the benefit of members of the Armed Forces community.
We are, of course, delighted to have been chosen as a beneficiary of the Fund and we welcome David Cameron's announcement today regarding the latest tranche of awards.
We are delighted to have been awarded £325,000 towards our Airplay youth support programme which supported more than 2,600 children and young people from RAF families last year.
The programme is the first of its kind in the Armed Forces community, providing a safe and supported environment for children and young people, thereby relieving some of the pressure on serving families. The award will be used to build play parks at RAF Benson and RAF Cosford and an indoor play area at RAF Cranwell.
While society recognises the sacrifices made by serving personnel, it is all too easy to overlook the impact that Service life can have upon families. So it is gratifying to see the Government recognising the importance of the needs of children and young people from the Armed Forces community through this award.
