Ryan's Benson to Paris bike ride

Squadron Leader Ryan Morris will be embarking on a bike ride next month alongside a team of 10 to raise money for our work. Ryan tells us more in this blog.

Ryan Morris

I joined the RAF as an officer and Pilot in 2001. Between 2004 and 2009 I conducted 11 operational tours in Iraq and an operational tour in Afghanistan.

I've had some amazing experiences, both positive and negative which have molded me into the person I am today. In 2009, I was promoted to the rank of Squadron Leader.

I have a team of lads 'n' dads  who'll be doing the bike ride which will pass through a number of WWII battlefield sites as we cycle from RAF Benson, finishing in Paris.

We depart on 28 May 2015 and will cover 300 miles. I can't wait to get going on the challenge. All of the participants are from different backgrounds and trades so it will be great getting to know different people.

Everyone involved has started training for the bike ride and as two of the participants live overseas, it has been great to see some of their training photos.

It will be interesting to see what happens when we all get together before the bike ride begins. We'll be training together so we can ensure that we stay safe along the route. I've actually never ridden a road bike before so the weeks to come will be an interesting experience!

I'll be doing other fundraising for the RAF Benevolent Fund and recently I completed the Reading Half Marathon to raise money for the charity. Over the course of the year I'm hoping to raise between £35,000 and £50,000 for Fund, however, for the bike ride I'd like to think that the whole group will be able to raise in the region of £10,000.
