Bunting was hung in homes across the UK and around the world on Sunday as fundraisers joined in the RAF Benevolent Fund's first Great British Sunday Lunch!
Thousands of people gathered around the dinner table to enjoy anything from a roast dinner to a curry or fish and chip supper and to remember the sacrifices made by those who fought in the Battle of Britain, 75 years ago.
A 95th birthday party, a 40th wedding anniversary and a street party were just some of the celebrations turned into fundraisers for the RAF Benevolent Fund.
Great British Sunday Lunch was truly a global fundraiser as meals were hosted in Cyprus, the Falkland Islands, and California.
Several RAF stations also joined in the fun including RAF High Wycombe, RAF Marham, RAF Cosford, RAF Valley, RAF Benson, RAF Waddington and RAF Wittering.
One fundraiser, James Atkinson from Cambridge, enjoyed himself so much he intends to hold another Great British Sunday Lunch in two weeks' time! Friends who couldn't be there to enjoy his buffet lunch on Sunday urged him to hold another event so they could come along and join in the fun.
He said: "We did some of the games which came in the pack and we put all the bunting up. I did a quiz of questions that I made up about the Battle of Britain. I told people what my grandfather did and guests were able to look through his logbook.
"Some friends were then interested in finding out about what their grandparents did so we had a big chat and a reminisce. I think it has made people more aware about what went on and that history can be interesting."
James held the dinner to pay tribute to his maternal grandfather Flt Lt Malcolm Finney 'Eddie' Edwards who flew Gloster Gladiators during the Battle of Britain, patrolling the harbour areas of Plymouth and Exeter from August to November 1940.
Following the Battle he was posted to Holland, with 3 Sqn as a reconnaissance pilot. Sadly he was shot down over Germany near to Spelle on Dec 29, 1944, just 23 days before his daughter was born.
