Throckmorton Air Show announces support for RAF welfare charity

The Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund is pleased to announce it has been chosen as one of two charity partners for next year's Throckmorton Air Show.

The popular event, which welcomed more than 15,000 visitors this year, will return for its eighth season on June 11, 2016. This year's show highlights included a flight by the Vulcan which retired forever at the end of this flying season, and the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, a Bristol Blenheim Bomber, a Pitts Special and Chipmunk to mention but a few.'

The air show, based at the former RAF Pershore site in Worcestershire, has a long tradition of supporting charity. This year more than £56,000 was raised and donated to five different organisations. In total, more than £100,000 has been given in support of local and national good causes as the air show has grown in size and popularity.

Simon Footer, regional director at the RAF Benevolent Fund, said: "We are delighted Throckmorton Air Show has chosen to support the RAF Benevolent Fund in this way. As the RAF's leading welfare charity, the RAF Benevolent Fund spent nearly £19 million supporting 39,000 members of the RAF Family last year alone. We could not do this without the generous support of events like this."

Organiser Samantha Jones said: "It is an honour to support the RAF Benevolent Fund for 2016. Being ex-military I have seen first hand what the Fund has done, not only for our veterans but their families too.

"As a charity they help so many incredible causes. The Fund's recent grant to Alzheimer's Society in support of veterans living with dementia is one very close to my heart. Being a paramedic, I see the devastation Alzheimer’s leaves behind.

"The way the Fund helped  RAF Regiment Cpl Stuart Robinson when he received devastating injuries following an IED blast while on patrol in Afghanistan is just one example of the amazing work they do. It is our pleasure to be a part of it."

Throckmorton Air Show will also support Midlands Air Ambulance (Air 25).
