Members of No 1 RAF Dance Band - The Squadronnaires - pictured during a radio broadcast at the BBC's Paris Theatre in London, 16 April 1945. Formed in early 1940, the band was made up of former members of popular dance bands who were invited to join the RAF and form a Service dance orchestra. It was voted the UK's favourite band in a competition run by a newspaper in 1944. The band played at RAF stations, aircraft factories, Red Cross and other auxiliary units raising funds for charities.

Two flying control officers - Flight Lieutennts M MacIntyre and H Summerscales - controlling RAF supply operations into Gerdermoen airfield, near Oslo, Norway, in mid-May 1945. Over 600 Allied aircraft were safely brought in to the airfield during the early days of Operation DOOMSDAY, the liberation of Norway.
