On Saturday 4 October 2025, Lord and Lady Bruce hosted a dinner in support of the RAF Benevolent Fund at their family home, Broomhall House, in Scotland.
The event was attended by 58 supporters of the Fund and included a drinks reception, supper, and a guest interview with former RAF fast-jet pilot, Kirsty Murphy.
Kirsty was the first and only female pilot to serve with the Red Arrows display team. Kirsty shared her story of becoming a fast-jet pilot, motivated by her father's experience as a prisoner of war during the first Gulf War.
She spoke about her operational flying on the Tornado GR4, including 39 combat missions over Iraq, and the challenges of working in a male-dominated environment.
She also described her selection, training, and flying with the Red Arrows, providing insight into the operational and physical demands of the role. Kirsty discussed the importance of teamwork in both operational squadrons and the aerobatics team, as well as the personal impact of losing two colleagues in separate accidents.
Gavin Davey, Area Director of Scotland, NI Ireland and NE England, said: “We are hugely grateful to Lord and Lady Bruce for their generous hospitality and to Kirsty for sharing her inspiring story. Events like these are important for bringing our supporters together and help us share the real stories behind the uniform. Thanks to all who attended and continue to support the Fund's mission to support the RAF Family.”
