On Sunday 27 April, fundraiser and RAF Reservist Bronwyn Harding took part in the London Marathon to raise money for the RAF Benevolent Fund.
Bronwyn is a Corporal RAF Reservist with 600 (City of London) Squadron based at RAF Northolt. She works in an admin role and has been serving for 10 years.
She decided to sign up to the London Marathon when she was looking for a challenge event to take part in on her birthday. Bronwyn said: “Last year, I spent my birthday marching 25 miles as part of the Nijmegen Qualifying weekend, and looking for my next challenge, I noticed the London Marathon was happening on my birthday. I actually got a ballot place, so I think fate was on my side as it was also my first time going in for the ballot!”
Bronwyn took part in a 16-week beginner’s plan to train for the event and ran the Marathon solo, with plenty of supporters cheering her on.
Speaking on the decision to support the Fund, Bronwyn said: “Knowing what the Fund does to support both serving Regular and Reserve personnel, as well as veterans, it was an easy decision for me to support them for my debut Marathon.”
Bronwyn added: “The highlight of the event for me was sprinting the last 200 metres and going across Tower Bridge. It was an incredible day; the crowd were amazing. I can see why it’s considered the best marathon in the world.
“I was also proud to become a Guinness World Record holder too – as part of a record number of finishers!”
Bronwyn has raised over £1,200 for the Fund so far. You can donate to support Bronwyn's fundraiser here.
