RAF Honington once again hosted the annual Veterans’ Christmas Party.

The event was organised with collaboration of the RAF Honington SSAFA In Service Committee, with additional funding from the RAF Benevolent Fund and support of ESS Catering Partners.

More than 50 veterans enjoyed a scrumptious Christmas dinner. A full afternoon of activities included festive Christmas pudding and mince pies, with a music singalong led by the Honington Military Wives Choir.

A quiz and raffle completed the afternoon in the warrant officers’ and sergeants’ mess. Station Commander Group Captain Dutch Holland gave a warm welcome to all attendees and thoroughly enjoyed the quality time out of his busy schedule.

Station personnel and invited guests from the local community, including chair of West Suffolk Council Mike Chester, also assisted with serving dinner and hosting the veterans.

Three service charities, SSAFA, the RAF Association and the RAF Benevolent Fund, each have representatives at RAF Honington who help to support welfare and fundraising needs.

Adnams, Greene King brewery, Morrisons of Dereham, Honington Camp Post Office and others donated prizes for the raffle, raising more than £230 which will go straight back to charity.

RAF Honington believes engagement with local and particularly elderly veterans is of utmost importance. This was a chance for the local RAF and service community to give back to those who have served our country.

And for those who were cosy at home for Christmas, hampers full of goodies were delivered to veterans unable to attend the party.
