Housing Support for Veterans

Whether you need help with unexpected one-off costs, adaptations or some advice around your benefits – we can help you.

How can The Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund assist with housing?

The Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund can assist ex-service personnel and their families with a range of housing issues or housing repairs that are negatively impacting their lives. Whether a one-off cost, such as a rent deposit, or assistance in buying white-good appliances, feel free to contact our team or request support today.

Below, you will find some scenarios that we may be able to help with:

Repairs

Rent and deposit assistance

If you, or someone who is related to a service personnel, is currently on a low income or at risk of homelessness, we may be able to help financially. For example, if someone requires assistance paying their rent deposit and their first month’s rent, our advisory service may be able to help.

Renting advocacy service

Our advocacy service team can also assist in challenging situations where people have had their tenancy terminated, or investigate ways that decisions can be overturned by the Local Authority.

If you need assistance with out-of-hours emotional support, our 24-hour wellbeing helpline is available at 0808 1751 365. Additional information regarding this service is accessible here.

During standard business hours (8:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday), you can also connect with our team via the web chat tool found at the bottom right of your screen. Learn more about our web chat service.

Removal costs and essential items

Financial support may be available to assist with relocation expenses or the procurement of vital household items, including carpets, electrical appliances, and essential furniture.

Essential property repairs or adaptations

If you can't afford to carry out essential repairs or adaptations to your property, we may be able to support you.

Councils have a statutory responsibility to provide financial assistance to people with a disability to help them live independently at home, so we may ask that you apply to them in the first instance.

Affordable Warmth Scheme

The Affordable Warmth Scheme is a programme to fund the installation and upgrade of central heating, including replacing boilers. We may also be able to assist with an additional grant if the grant you receive from the Affordable Warmth Scheme does not cover all of your heating improvement costs. Find out about the Affordable Warmth Scheme.

Housing Trust

If you are a serving personnel of the RAF and have experienced life-changing injuries and must leave the service early, we can provide suitable housing for you. Please contact our team, or request support online today.
