Our work across the UK
How we support people
RAF life doesn't stand still : from the demands of service, the unpredictability of deployment to the unique challenges service families face at home. Watch our film made at RAF Lossiemouth, the absolute frontline for defending UK airspace and home to one of the UK's strategic Quick Reaction Alert where pilots and engineers are on constant alert. Meet the people behind the uniforms and see the places and communities benefitting from our support where serving life moves fast.
Support for RAF Lossiemouth
At RAF Lossiemouth, we provide a broad range of support for serving personnel and their families, helping them navigate the challenges of Service life, including deployments, long working hours, relocation and time spent apart from loved ones. Through initiatives such as Airplay youth clubs, Ben's Den, school-based support, mums' yoga, toddler groups and outdoor play programmes, we help strengthen wellbeing, reduce isolation and create opportunities for families to build support networks. Practical and emotional support is available during difficult times, including financial assistance and access to mental health services.
Who we've helped
The impact of this support is reflected in the experiences of those who have benefited from it. Flight Lieutenant Mark (left in picture), whose family accessed youth activities and school support during his deployments, described our welfare support as “instrumental” in helping his child cope with the time he spent away from home.
RAF spouse Morgan (middle), received both financial assistance following a family bereavement and counselling support during a period of severe depression and anxiety. Morgan said: “It’s helped me so much; I feel like a different person completely. I don’t know what I would have done without those sessions.” Together, their stories demonstrate the vital role we play in supporting the wellbeing and resilience of the serving community at RAF Lossiemouth.
Flight Sergeant Diane (far right), was supported during her maternity leave while her husband was away. She said: “The Fund has been absolutely great for me, particularly when I was on maternity leave. The impact of the support is fantastic. It combats loneliness, you get to network, it’s a friendly environment, and that support keeps us together as a team both at work and at home.”
Our support in numbers
In 2026 so far, we have supported 3,752 members of the RAF Family across Scotland, from Caithness to Wigtownshire. Our support is shaped around individual needs. From station support for serving personnel and families to financial assistance, independent living adaptations and combating loneliness – we’re there when it matters most.
