RAF Medic completes endurance challenge for Fund

On 26 September, RAF Leeming serviceman successfully completed the PARAS’10 endurance challenge raising money for the RAF Benevolent Fund.

The event involved a 10-mile TAB carrying 35lbs in a bergen, completed at Catterick Garrison, North Yorkshire. Lewis prepared for the challenge by gradually increasing the weight he carried during training runs in the weeks leading up to the event.

Lewis, 19, is an AS1 RAF Medic based at RAF Leeming and has served for two years.

Speaking of the challenge, Lewis said: “I decided to raise money for the Fund because it’s a great cause that supports serving personnel, veterans and their families in times of need. Although my family and I haven’t received personal support, I am proud to raise money for a great cause.”

He added: “I signed up for this challenge as a physical test. I also completed an ultra-marathon in the Peak District for this reason. I thought the uphill sections of the TAB would be the most miserable part, but it was all part of the experience.”
