To mark this month of Remembrance, the RAF Benevolent Fund is joining other military charities in a space at Westminster Abbey’s Field of Remembrance, to remember members of the Armed Forces who have lost their lives.

The Field of Remembrance has taken place every November since 1928 when The Poppy Factory took a group of disabled veterans, a tray of poppies, and a collecting tin to the grounds of St Margaret's Church at Westminster Abbey.

The tradition has grown over the years, and now thousands of poppies on wooden symbols and tributes are planted every year.

The Field of Remembrance was attended by the Duchess of Gloucester on 5 November, alongside members of Parliament, serving personnel across the tri-services, veterans, and service charities.

Representing the RAF Benevolent Fund, Air Vice-Marshal Chris Elliot, Lady Hillier and Corporal Neil Robinson attended to plant crosses and pay their respects. A two-minute silence was observed after Big Ben struck 11am.

Many beneficiaries and supporters of the Fund provided their own personal tributes for the crosses planted in the space.

RAF widow and Fund Ambassador, Jacqui Thompson, remembered her husband Gary, who was killed in Afghanistan whilst serving in the RAF Regiment. She said: “Gary Thompson. Remembered, loved, cherished. Forever in our hearts. Your loving Family always.”

RAF veteran and Fund Ambassador, Dave Rose, said: “For your sacrifice I am eternally grateful.”
RAF Corporal and Fund Ambassador, Neil Robinson remembered his great-uncle, Private Douglas Graham Robinson, who was killed in the Second World War during the Normandy Campaign in 1944.

Corporal Neil Robinson said: “For Pte Douglas Graham Robinson, Normandy, 8 August 1944, aged 21. Forever young, forever remembered. Thank you for your ultimate sacrifice. Rest in peace.”

You can visit the Field of Remembrance daily from Friday 6 – Sunday 15 November, 8:30am – 6:00pm.
