How we spend our money

As the RAF's leading welfare charity, the RAF Benevolent Fund has supported the RAF family, through thick and thin, for almost 100 years.

SAC Michael Goody

We ensure that your donations are spent directly on meeting the needs of the RAF family: each year we assist around 41,000 serving RAF, veterans and their dependants.

Our welfare support is the bedrock of everything that we do. From childcare and relationship difficulties to injury and disability, and from financial hardship and debt to illness and bereavement, we help any member of the RAF family in a broad range of issues.

In 2015, we spent more than £18 million on welfare delivery:

How we helped others
  2015 2014
General welfare £10.5m (58%) £12.6 (67%)
Residential care £4m (22%) £4m (5%)
Housing £2.7m (15%) £2.1m (11%)
Total expenditure £18.2m £18.7m

In 2015, the serving RAF gave £1.6 million through the RAF's Service Day's Pay Giving scheme, a testament to how valuable the Royal Air Force consider the RAF Benevolent Fund to be.

As ever, our supporters have remained incredibly generous and committed despite the economic climate. Voluntary income totalled £21.6m in 2014.
