On Saturday 2 August, Carterton Bowls Club hosted its annual Aussie Pairs Competition to raise money for the Fund.
Nicola Patterson, Subscriptions Coordinator at the Fund organised the event with her husband. She said: “The day involved a round robin mini league of Australian Pairs Bowls, with the winners from each league going on to play for the main event, and 2nd place playing for the plate event. There was a 50/50 raffle where the winner got to keep 50% of the prize winnings, donating the other half to the Fund.
There were 22 pairs from across Oxfordshire playing on the day, plus lots of Fund supporters in attendance. Team ‘The Rolling Pearce Jones’ won the main event and £400 prize money. Team ‘Where’s the Jack?’, were runners up winning £200.
Nicola said: “We had a raffle with over 50 prizes that were kindly donated by local businesses and bowls companies. We were also extremely lucky to receive a holiday thanks to Away Resorts that we held a separate raffle for. We even had John Coghlan, Status Quo drummer, and his wife Gillie, to kindly draw the raffle."
This is the second year that Carterton Bowls Club have fundraised with this tournament, with the Club raising over £1,000 to support the RAF Family in 2025.
