On Thursday 8 May 2025, RAF veteran and fundraiser Christine Carr held a VE Day quiz night to raise money for the Fund.
Former Senior Aircraftwoman, Christine, organised the quiz fundraiser to mark the 80th anniversary of VE Day with her family at The Plough pub in Powburn, Northumberland.
Christine said: “Our local pub landlady arranged for the Quizmaster to deliver the VE Day quiz; all the questions had the letters ‘VE’ in the answers. The event featured displays of Second World War memorabilia and my father-in-law, Jack Carr’s, medals in tribute to him and his service as an RAF pilot during the War.”

The night included entertainment from musicians playing violin, including Christine’s son Peter, who played a solo of ‘Ashoken Farewell’ in tribute to his grandfather.
Christine continued: “VE Day is an important anniversary to me because it marked the end of the Second World War. Had Jack not survived it, I wouldn't have married his son Richard and had our son Peter. I wanted to fundraise for the Fund as they were instrumental in helping my family with several issues including financial assistance and advocacy support.
“They’ve also put us in touch with the RAF Disabled Holiday Trust which means we have a holiday to look forward to together in August at Tigh Mor.”
Christine added: “I wanted to fundraise to 'payback' a little of what we have received. It was a wonderful evening, the quiz was great fun, and we had so many prizes for the raffle. The attendees said Peter played brilliantly and said how much they enjoyed the evening!
“We also have a charity concert booked on 5 July at the Cheviot Centre in the hope of raising more money for the Fund.”
Christine's VE Day quiz raised over £240 for the Fund.
