Former RAF Benevolent Fund Chairman Lawrie Haynes has collected his Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) medal, after being awarded the honour earlier this year.

The honour was bestowed by Her Majesty the Queen, in her final, Platinum Jubilee, Honours List.

It was awarded for his voluntary service to serving RAF personnel and veterans.

Lawrie, a former RAF Apprentice and aircraft technician, spent 16 years on the Fund's Board, with eight as Chairman.

He said: "I am hugely delighted to receive this honour and accept it on behalf of everyone who works so hard at the RAF Benevolent Fund to support RAF personnel, both past and present.

"The work done at RAF Benevolent Fund touches and improves the lives of so many people, I am so proud to have been associated with it."

He was joined at the investiture ceremony by his wife Carol and daughters Liberty and Natasha.
