Student takes on tandem skydive fundraiser

A recent Stamford College graduate with ambitions to join the RAF is set to take on a tandem skydive this summer to raise money for the Fund.

Kai Yarlett, 17, recently completed an Air and Defence course at Stamford College, will take to the skies at Sibson Aerodrome on 29 August in support of the Fund. The fundraising challenge comes as Kai prepares to pursue his goal of joining the RAF next year.

Kai, who was in the Combined Cadet Force for nearly five years, said: “I decided to do a tandem skydive as my brother James skydives as a hobby, and one day he asked if I would be willing to take on the challenge – and of course I said yes!

“I was inspired to fundraise for the RAF Benevolent Fund because of my family history – my grandad served for 32 years – and my own aspiration to join the RAF as an Air Traffic and Weapons Controller. I’m also inspired by the amount of support the charity provides to RAF personnel, veterans, and their families.”

He continued: “I’ve had many conversations with people from the Fund at airshows across the UK, learning more about their welfare support for the RAF Family and it inspired me to help in any way I can.”

Kai will be joined by his brother who is skydiving on the day too, as well as family support from his mum, stepdad, and auntie from America.

Kai added: “There may also be supporters from my stepdad’s military aviation YouTube channel, who are very enthusiastic about the event.

I’m most excited to experience the views from above as well as the adrenaline rush as we fall in style!”
