A force of cadets will cross the English Channel on 28 May to embark on a challenge which they hope will raise over £4,000 for charity.

Cadets from Sussex Wing Air Training Corps will march for five days across the D-Day invasion beaches which include Utah, Omaha, Gold, Juno and Sword.

Jonathan Else, from Haywards Heath, is a sergeant based at 172 Haywards Heath Air Training Corps. He, along with 45 cadets and 24 adults, will march a total of 35 miles across the Normandy beaches in France to raise money for both the RAF Benevolent Fund and Help for Heroes.

Along the way the group will stop off at various museums and places of interest such as Pegasus Bridge to learn more about the events of before, during and after D-Day.

Jonathan had this to say: "Both Help for Heroes and the RAF Benevolent Fund are charities close to the Sussex Wing Air Training Corps heart and it is extremely important that support for them is maintained.

"This march is not only important to raise money for the two charities but also to keep the memory of what happened on the beaches of Normandy in 1944 alive with young people today."
