Following the announcement of the closure of the Officers’ Association Benevolent Fund (OABF), the RAF Benevolent Fund (RAFBF) will take responsibility for all OABF Royal Air Force beneficiaries.
The OABF, a charity serving former commissioned officers and families of the Army, Royal Navy, and Royal Air Force, has long provided vital support to relieve hardship among former officers, their families, and dependants.
The RAFBF, the charity that provides life long, holistic support to all in the RAF Family, will take on responsibility for former RAF officers and families currently supported by the OABF. The Chairs and CEOs of the respective charities met on 25 April 2025 to formally agree the transfer of beneficiaries and a donation to support current and future needs.
Air Vice-Marshal Chris Elliot, Controller of the RAF Benevolent Fund, said: "As a consequence of the upcoming closure of the OABF, we are pleased to be able to offer support to their current RAF Family beneficiaries and are grateful for the donation that will go a long way to help us sustain services now and into the future. Our welfare team will be on-hand to support those who will be transferred to our care in the upcoming months."
Lee Holloway, CEO of the OABF, said: "Our focus has been supporting OABF’s beneficiaries over many years and with closing, ensuring our beneficiaries continue to receive the best support. It is with gratitude to RAFBF for their collaboration and agreement to continue to support OABF’s RAF Family beneficiaries."
