Team of RAF servicemen complete 17-hour golf challenge for Fund

On Saturday 21 June 2025, a team of four RAF servicemen completed a 92 holes of golf challenge to raise money for the RAF Benevolent Fund.
The challenge took place at Shrivenham Park Golf Club and involved five rounds of golf plus two holes starting at 4:45am and ending at 9:50pm.
Corporal Sam Davin, 38, is based at RAF Brize Norton and has been serving for 15 years. He said: “My family and I received support from the Fund in 2021, when I was returning from deployment and we had to relocate from the north of England to RAF Brize Norton. It was a very short notice move for our family as my role was starting earlier than planned. The Fund covered the cost of our van hire and fuel which was a huge help to us.”
The team are also raising money for COMPASS (Children of Military Parents Accessing SEN Support) at RAF Brize Norton. They provide support for military families who have children with special education needs.
Sam added: “My son is autistic and so we were keen to raise awareness of this cause, just like we did on the challenge in 2022.”
Speaking on the day, Sam said: “I was petrified of the challenge to be honest! But it was great to get together with the lads again as we have struggled to meet up since our last challenge in 2022.
“We played a mix of stroke play and match play where losers paid £10 each to the Fund. After the third round the pain set in and the final two rounds were agony, but we managed to push through!
“We completed the challenge in 17 hours 20 minutes and walked a total of 58,000 steps.”
The team have raised over £1600 for both charities so far. You can donate to their fundraiser on GoFundMe.
