Over the next year, RAF veteran Joe Wallace will be raising money for the RAF Benevolent Fund by walking the distance of John O-Groats to Land’s End virtually in his hometown.
Joe Wallace, who turned 90 last month, commenced the challenge on his birthday with an aim to complete the 847 mile walk before his 91st birthday.
As a keen walker, Joe walks 10,000 steps every day around his hometown of St Neots, Cambridgeshire. Joe is raising money to support five chosen charities including the Fund.
Joe served in the RAF for 20 years as a musician and bandmaster in the RAF Music Services and decided he wanted to give back to the Fund to support members of the RAF Family.
Joe said: “I currently try to complete at least 10,000 steps a day, come hail or shine. On one of my walks, I thought I could probably walk the equivalent of John O’Groats to Land’s End before I turn 91. My motto in life is ‘you are never too old to do anything’.”
He continued: “I hope to raise £12,000 for my five charitable institutions with meaningful ties to my family. If I reach my target each organisation will receive a minimum of £2,000.
“I will be completing the final 15 miles or so in person at Land's End next July, and encourage anyone who would like to, to join me at that time.”
