In April 2026, RAF Reserve Tony Hall will take on a 1000-mile cycle ride from Land’s End to John O’Groats to raise money for the RAF Benevolent Fund.

Wing Commander Tony Hall, 63, served 32 years regular service in the RAF as a Training Officer with ISTAR Force at RAF Waddington.

Tony, who now serves as a Full Time Reserve, has decided to take on the solo challenge from Land’s End to John O’Groats to raise money to support the RAF Family.

He said: “I have been a fundraiser and volunteer for the RAF Benevolent Fund throughout my career. I am approaching retirement, so this will probably be my last major event.

“I have enjoyed many of the welfare facilities provided by the Fund across RAF Stations and want to give back to the Fund for all the vital work they do.”

Tony will be completing his ride on a 33-year-old bicycle. He said: “I will be completing the ride solo and unsupported on my trusty old steel 1993 Dawes Galaxy bicycle. This adventure is not just a personal challenge; it is a heartfelt mission to raise funds for the RAF Benevolent Fund.

“As part of my training, I completed a cycle from the Hook of Holland to Arnhem in September 2025 and will be aiming to do the Coast-to-Coast route from Whitehaven to Tynemouth in March 2026.”

Tony added: “With this challenge, I hope to inspire others over-60 to keep physically active – and set a positive example to the younger RAF personnel.

“I am aiming to enjoy every part of it, even the tough parts, but successfully getting to John O’Groats will be the icing on the cake.”
