RAF veteran to complete Land’s End to John O’Groats fundraiser on motorcycle

RAF veteran Tony Jackson will be taking on the Land’s End to John O’Groats (LEJOG) challenge on his motorcycle, to raise money for the RAF Benevolent Fund.

Former Squadron Leader Tony Jackson, 65, from Maidenhead, served more than 36 years in the RAF with his career spanning roles in Air Traffic Control and Flight Operations.

Tony’s LEJOG challenge will cover 893 miles between 28 May and 2 June. He will be riding a Maeving RM1S electric motorcycle, supported by an electric van – donated for the event by Rygor Autos and driven by his brother, retired Flight Lieutenant Trevor Jackson.

The challenge will begin at Land’s End, passing through Taunton and RAF Shawbury –where Tony completed his Air Traffic Control training – before continuing to Penrith, Stirling, Inverness, and finishing at John O’Groats.

Tony said: “I wanted to take on a meaningful personal challenge after turning 65, and this seemed like the perfect opportunity to combine that with fundraising for the RAF Benevolent Fund.

“Due to my long service in the RAF, the Fund felt like the ideal charity to support, as it provides vital help to serving personnel, veterans and their families.”

Tony added: “Although we haven’t received support from the charity personally, Trevor worked closely with the Fund during his RAF career to help support long term sick and terminally ill personnel.

“I’m most looking forward to the ride itself, seeing the country along the route, revisiting RAF Shawbury, and completing the journey with my brother – all while raising as much money as possible for the Fund.”

You can donate to Tony’s fundraiser on JustGiving.

With special thanks to the sponsors who supported Tony and Trevor’s challenge: Maeving, Rygor Autos and Zapmap.
