On the 13 November, RAF Brize Norton hosted the launch of The Beaujolais Run®, a world-famous navigational challenge marking the release of the latest Beaujolais Nouveau each November. Drivers are tasked with 'bringing home the Beaujolais', taking the shortest route back to the UK from France.

Originally launched in 1970, the event has supported the RAF Benevolent Fund since 2017.

Several teams took part, driving a unique range of vehicles during the five-day event, including a 1963 E-Type Jaguar. Participants experience a series of 'money can’t buy' experiences including private vehicle collections, Champagne houses, Wine estates and Private Dining during the event.

Rowena Finch, Strategic Partnerships Manager at the RAF Benevolent Fund, said: “The ‘Run is a quintessentially British automotive, lifestyle and gastronomy event, with entrants taking part in a number of navigational challenges in the heart of the wine and Champagne regions of France to 'bring back the Beaujolais', which is released on the third Thursday in November.

"The money raised to date from The Beaujolais Run® will enable the Fund to continue providing practical, financial and emotional help to all members of the RAF Family, past and present, who need our support, so a huge thank you to all involved."

Squadron Leader Stu Masters, based at RAF Brize Norton, said: "When I was asked to be the Project Officer to support The Beaujolais Run® Launch Day, I jumped at the chance.  It was an absolute honour to welcome the participants and show them what we do at RAF Brize Norton - the UK’s largest RAF base."

He added: "The money raised from The Beaujolais Run® over the week goes straight to the RAF Benevolent Fund which has supported the RAF Family for over 100 years. Meeting all of the lovely people and their cars was a pleasure for myself and my team and I wish them all the very best during their trip to France – good luck!"
